Ms. Madeleine

My name is Madeleine Adam and I’m a prima ballerina from Bucharest, Romania.

I was told that I walk on grace and I can attest to that. Despite the turmoil of my childhood, I managed to pave, all by myself, the road to the top performing arts stage of my country.

Not only that, but along the way since the tender age of nine, I was featured on television shows, films, theater and national presidential performances.

I lived the first part of my life under the severe scrutiny of the Communist Party and that didn’t do any service to my artistic side.  During this period, I dedicated my whole life to the beauty and perfection of ballet, performing at the Theater of Opera and Ballet.

Some of my performances include: “Swan Lake”, “Giselle”, “Don Quijote”, “Coppellia”, “The Hunchback of Notre Dame”, “The Bloody Wedding”, “Carmen - Opera & Ballet”, “The Nutcracker,” “Romeo & Juliet”, “Paquita”, “Pas des Quatre”, “The Sleeping Beauty”, “Snow White and the Seven Dwarves”, and numerous contemporary pieces.

My career opened the doors to multiple world tours in Europe, Asia and Africa. As the political system turned into a dictatorship, Romania took a turn for the worst.

Believing in dreams led me to escape from Communism while on tour in Greece. After two years of political asylum, I finally made it to the United States.

Once in the US, I was able to not only dance but also direct, choreograph, teach and judge talent competitions extensively - from Torrington and Plainville, CT to Pittsburgh, PA and finally Sarasota, FL.

I ’m very excited to share my knowledge with the BDA dancers.
